Amsterdam Light Festival 2012

Probably you have taken some pictures during the Amsterdam Light Festival, like so many others.

National Monument Amsterdam

Wind energy at Oosterdok.
Playing hide and seek at the Hortus Botanicus.

And probably your pictures are now hidden somewhere on your hard disk, never to see the light again (pun intented).

For people who want recognition for their iPhone or Instagram pictures, Amsterdam Light Festival organised a photo competition. Send your best 'Amsterdam Light Festival picture' to info@amsterdamlightfestival.com. Closing date is tomorrow. Yes, I know, I'm last-minute as always.

I could go for the most shared art object of the Amsterdam Light Festival on Facebook, 1.26 Amsterdam from Janet Echelman.

Or for the cute Asian girl.

My couchsurfer Mailisa from Indonesia.

But that would be too obvious. I'm going for the picute where everyone asked, "Why are you taking a picture of that truck?"

A hint.

I know the picutre has a massive image noire, duh.

Hola guapas y guapos. Comment ça va?
I'm back from Barcelona and Toulouse. My bff Ying lives in Barcelona. The last time I was there was in 2008. So it was time to visit her again. Last month she was in The Netherlands. She told me her plan to immigrate to Hong Kong.:( Since Hong Kong is not around the corner I didn't think twice when I saw the plane tickets to Barcelona weren't that expensive. The funny thing is that during both visits there was a chance for us to visit museums for free. Last month we had the open museumweekend in The Netherlands. I met Ying in Rotterdam so we went to the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen to see the peanut butter platform.
Ik ben terug van Barcelona en Toulouse. Mijn vriendin Ying woont in Barcelona. Asian people like free stuff.:D Het museumweekend is in Nederland meestal in de maand april.

First we had to put our bags in a locker and Ying hang our jackets on this art piece.

I kid you not, watching pictures of fungees at the ceiling.

After the museum we had dim sum around 5 p.m. I never ate dim sum so late but it's possible to eat it all day around at chinese restaurant Orient (Westersingel 4, Rotterdam). Since my friend Ying is going to move to Hong Kong she needs to learn Cantonese. She's learning the language phonetically. First she reads the sentence in Mandarin. Then the sentence is translated in the way the Hong Kong chinese say it. And the third sentence is written phonetically.

She tried to speak some sentences and I had to guess what she said. I know she will do fine in Hong Kong. It's a great country and they have a great metro system.:)

May 14 Barcelona had the La Nit dels Museus. Museum night from 7p.m. - 1 a.m. tried to go to La Pedrera (Gaudi museum) first but then we saw this around 7:30 p.m.

I can tell you, the row was endless. Fat chance we would see the museum that night. Same problem at the museu Egipci de Barcelona (the Egyptian museum of Barcelona).

The third museum had no queue. After our short visit we discovered why.-______- I've gorgotten the name of the museum, it was that impressive. Since I didn't really pay attention at art class I don't know what art is. To be honest I don't even care..:D But this museum had for example two kinds of soil on the wall and a huge garbage bag on the floor. And some wooden floor they might have gotten from Ikea.
Maybe they were reconstructing the museum and left the garbage behind ...

I fourth museum was the Teatre museu el rei de la magia (magic museum). I couldn't undertand what the guide was saying. But that's because she was speaking catalan, not my cup of tea. The museum is really small but very cute. The museum is actually a school for magicians in training. Cool isn't it? But no students performing that night.

The last museum was my favourite one. But was on the hills, so very far away from the city centre. I will tell you later why that was a bad idea to do at that time of the day. It was already 11 p.m. And you can guess again, there was an enormous queue in front of the museum.

But more about this museum the next time cause I still need to upload the other pictures and videos from Spain and France.

Power shopping

Bff RJ needed a new jacket and I needed some good food. So first we went to the Stenden studentlounge. A little lounge from Stenden University managed by students of International Hospitality Managment. They serve fresh made buns, salads and good coffee for a fair price. We had lunch for two: 2 buns filled with ham and honey mustard sauce and vegetables, 1 croque monsieur filled with extras and 2 big cups of cappuccinos for 10 Euros.

They say they serve the best coffee in town since they've learnt from the best. I would say, see for yourself. I mean taste for yourself.

At the V&D we discovered a special Miffy department.^^ How cute!

Nijntje is Miffy's original name. It's Dutch but the pronunciation was not that convenient for the international market so they've changed the international name into Miffy. It was in Japan where I discovered the other name. First I thought it was a fake brand name =) or a name for a STD.:/

I still need to feed my wardrobe new clothes. During summer I did some cleaning and decided to give away my clothing I bought before 2008. Just a symbolic year for personal freedom. Anyway, during this rage I forgot I threw away all my pyjamas. I need a new one. It's really a need ... you know ... just in case Jesus comes back ... I don't want to be nekkid.:/ I think there's even a bible verse about that. Need to check that. Another reason to buy pjs is because of this
--->

Isn't this uber cute? It even has bows on each sleeve. And the prize is Yennie proof (meaning cheap ^____^). Anywayz, I didn't buy it since I always apply the Yennie-shopping-rule:
1. Do I have the money? (No: don't buy it you poor bastard. Yes: go to question nr 2)
2. Can you eat it? (Yes: yum, yum! No: go to question nr 3)
3. How many hours do you need to work for this product/service? (You-don't-need-to-calculate-that-cheap: Wait another day, it will be still there if it's meant to be. More than three hours: Dream on ...)

People know I love free stuff. I'm not cheap I just like to do things and buy things that are worth my money. And if they are for free. Woohoo, count me in. So the city hall had a free exposition. It's a travelling exposition from the Dutch government showing the people the local government are doing something about climate control. Quite easy solutions like they did in the past. Like using boats in cities with canals to supply the pubs and restaurants with beer instead of trucks which causes traffic jams. And running cars that don't move waste fuel and polute the air even more. They made a little boat out of a beer bottle. I guess the people who made the exposition had a blast. Anywayz, I enjoyed reading it and touching things.

The exposition is till wednesday the 6th of October at the city hall of Leeuwarden.

Final pictures of my Paris trip 2009.

As always I was standing in the wrong queue at the Centre Pompidou. They didn't put a sign that the queue was for people who purchased an online ticket. Made the same mistake at the statue of liberty.-___- Back then I was standing in the queue for the stairs, I thought it was the one for the elevator. Great, I'm not fond of open stairs cause I'm afraid of hights. So we had to walk back to the end of the queue on the right.

Waiting on the wrong side

Inside the Centre Pompidou. Looking down at the people still waiting outside. Mwoahahahaha.xD

What the heck? Wait, I don't want to know.

FYI: Enterance is for free for all people under 18 and all Europeans under 25 wit ID.
Price for adults is around 12 Euros.

Hôtel du ville (city hall of Paris). I accidentally walked in a strike (at the back).:D

Point zéro (from this point all the distances from Paris were measured).

Matthew 21:12. :/

The fish ate the pope.

Took a picture of Japanese people taking a picture of me.

Yes, the pedestrian at the left didn't get fined for ignoring the red light.

At the Le pont du Carrousel bridge. The street lantern was happy to meet us.

I saw some locks attached to the bridge. They are left there by lovers promising each other on valentine's day to stay with each other forever.
