Ja, dit wordt langzamerhand een food blog.-______- Een aantal weken terug had Voordeel Vinden een super sweet deal met Puur. Zie de deal in onderstaande plaatje.

Yup, mijn login naam is 'el cheapo.'

4 vouchers per klant. Ik heb bff RJ opgetrommeld om ook 4 te kopen. In totaal had ik recht op 16 bolletjes ijs. Normaal ga ik naar Min 12 maar daar sta ik meestal een half uur mijn hersenpannetje te breken over welke smaak te kiezen. Puur is simpel, 16 smaken in de vitrine. Elke dag wordt er een aantal smaken gewisseld. Op de website staan de smaken:

Ze zeggen dat ze zo min mogelijk kleur- en smaakstoffen gebruiken Ook is alles Fair Trade bij hun. Een beetje Ben & Jerry maar dan zonder Ben & Jerry. Ik ga hard op de yoghurtsmaken. Die raad ik je dan ook aan. Bij Min 12 betaal je 35 cent voor het hoorntje. Bij Puur is die gratis.:)

Gisteren heb ik @dmvdberg en @rindapinda op ijs getrakteerd bij Puur. Hun vraag was waarom. Ik gaf een andere reden op maar het is vooral omdat ze de papa en mama zijn van de allerliefste bolletje wol, Wolf.^^

Wolf kwam laatst hier logeren. Zoals alle katten dat hebben, heeft mijn haar ook een eigen wil. Ik wou leuk met Wolf op de foto maar mijn haar zat steeds in mijn ogen. De kat was het op een gegeven moment zat. Dit was het beste resultaat.

Forced HAPPY FACE! :D

Anywayz, ik ben bang voor vlinders en motten. Waarom? In 1997 zat ik in de vlindertuin van dierenpark Emmen. Ik besloot zo'n vlinder een keer van dichtbij te bekijken. Ik realiseerde mij dat een vlinder er best eng uit ziet. Zoals alle andere insecten en spinnen, te veel bewegende lichaamsonderdelen. 'Wat heeft dit gegeven met met Wolf te maken?', hoor ik je zeggen. Nou, naast een eigen wil geven katten ook instant aandacht aan alles wat beweegt. Ik dacht de oplossing te hebben gevonden door 1 plus 1 te doen, Wolf toestemming geven om de motten te vangen. Nope, all hell broke loose.:/ Dan pas kom je erachter hoeveel glas je in huis hebt.

De avond toen Wolf werd opgehaald, deed bff RJ een mot in een doorzichtig doosje (ja, wij zijn barbaars) zodat het als een levende rammelaar functioneerde. Het leek RJ een leuk idee om D & M te laten zien hoe hun kat kon trippen over zoiets kleins.

AIFW Zeeman stunt / Zeeman stunt was al voorzien.

Zeeman, a discounter simular to Old Navy, managed to show their new 'exclusive' collection at the AIFW (Amsterdam International Fashion Week) and the AIFW didn't notice. Everyone was surprised at the end of the show because only 7 people knew about this marketing stunt. The catch-phrase of the show was, looking good doesn't have to be expensive. To me Zeeman just copied the marketing concept of H&M. 1. Find a designer who is willing to work for you. 2. Pay a lot of dough for his work. 3. Use the words 'exclusive', luxury and design in your press release and sell make-believe. 4. Cash a lot of money.

Waarschijnlijk heb je de stunt van Zeeman tijdens het AIFW al gezien. Zeeman heeft goed afgekeken van H&M. Het H&M hoe-kom-ik-van-mijn-cheap-ass-kinderarbeid-imago-af-concept:

Stap 1. Vindt een ontwerper die bereid is voor jou te werken.

Stap 2. Betaal hem veel pegels.

Stap 3. Gebruik de woorden exclusief, luxe and design in je persbericht en verkoop make-believe.

Stap 4. Kassa!

If you like the collection shown in the video don't bother to look on the website (the collection is only available online). They don't sell the best pieces on the website, just the pieces only soccer moms would wear. Such a shame cause I really liked the little black dress. Dear Zeeman, You lured the attention of the young folks but you don't sell WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get). What you did is more WYMWISWWSS (what your mom wears is what we still sell).

Als de collectie je bevalt, dan zal de collectie op de website behoorlijk tegen vallen. Er staan maar 6 kledingstukken online. Jammer, ik was enorm benieuwd naar het zwarte jurkje. Zeeman laat hier de kans, om een bredere publiek voor zich te winnen, liggen. Beste Zeeman, u slaat met deze campagne de plank totaal mis. Geef nou eerlijk toe, hoe vaak denkt u dat men naar uw winkel gaat voor leuke kleding? Je gaat naar de Zeeman voor goedkope ondergoed en witte t-shirts. U focust zich waarschijnlijk niet op oma P. van 5 hoog in de Hoofdstraat. Want wij beiden weten dat Oma P. waarschijnlijk niet meer eens weet dat ze tijdens de laatste keer onweer de stekker van haar PC, met WP 5.1, uit het stopcontact heeft getrokken. En daardoor haar PC het niet meer doet wanneer ze haar computer wil starten om zo uw nieuwe collectie online te zien. De collectie geeft mij het gevoel alsof lekker ben gemaakt voor 5-gangen menu in de Hilton maar uiteindelijk friet met mayo krijg in een studentenkantine.

I wasn't surprised about the decision of Zeeman to contract a fashion designer for their collection. Koefnoen (a Dutch sketch comedy television series) did a sketch after Karl Lagerfeld designed a clothing line for H&M in 2004. Joking about the fashion frenzy H&M and Karl Lagerfeld started. Luxery for the commoners. The store used in the video is from Zeeman. The video is filmed in a way like it was filmed by the paparazzi.

Ik werd niet verrast door het filmpje van de Zeeman tijdens het AIFW. Het deed mij denken aan een sketch van Koefnoen. Dit was nadat H&M een collectie van Karl Lagerfeld lanceerde. Koefnoen had de samenwerking van Zeeman met een bekende ontwerper al jaren terug voorzien.

Horn of Africa

Until yesterday I'd never heard of the Horn of Africa before. It's a region in the continent of Africa, containing the countries Eritrea, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Somalia. The news was showing certified first responders crying for help. I want to help but like you I sometimes get tired of the number of different charitable organizations. I fear my money won't reach the people who really need it and disappear in the pockets of the corrupt governments. The fact I think like this makes me sad. Of course I want to help. It's my duty as a christian. It's my duty because I'm a second-generation refugee. It's my duty because I would be denying their human right to live.

I'm not rich but I'm willing to share what I can miss. I don't want to act like a saint but in my opinion this is really a time to give money. These people didn't choose for this terrible drought. We need to give these people humanitarian aid because every person deserves dignity. Would you care about them if they were your own family or best friend? I always weigh my food before I make dinner cause I don't want to waste food. Especially after seeing the next picture some years ago.

A Sudanese girl is dying of hunger. The vulture at the back is just waiting for her to die so it can eat her .... This Pulitzer Prize winning picture is from Kevin Carter who committed suicide one year after the picture was taken.

Anyway, I won't judge you if you're not willing to give anything. I just want your time. I remember my aunt telling me she used to make pancakes without meat once a week so she, my uncle and cousins could save money for their foster child. I think it's a good thought. You will teach children the value of giving, their responsibility to take care of the less fortunate and to simply care.(>^^)><(^^<) My grocery budget is € 50,- a week. To follow my aunt's example I will donate every penny I'll save in that budget the next 7 days. Everything will go to giro 555 (a bank account from the Dutch cooperating aid organizations) cause they are specialized in humanitarian aid.

Cooking against famine Day 1

I don't think it's a good thing to eat fried rice with soy sause everyday. It's cheap but I don't need to be on a diet, I'm slim enough.;) I like Spam. I used to eat a lot of Spam when I was 'poor'. It's poor people food, like instant ramen.:D For some reason my mom used to accuse me of eating a lot of onions cause it's what 'poor people' who can't cook eat (???!!!).-____- OK back to Spam. Maybe it's a figment of my imagination but correct me if I'm wrong. I think I've got the frying-spam-thing from my mom. It might be an Asian thing. Hawaiian like frying their spam. They even make some kind of sushi with it, Spam musubi.XD

I saw this cute Japanese commercial for Spam on Youtube.

For fried Spam Hawaiian style you'll need:

- Rice (as much as you can eat. Left over rice is better but I didn't have any);

- Spam (one can is enough for 4);

- green onion (as much a you like);

- eggs;

- oil;

- soy sauce;

and vegetables you like to eat with it (the recipe didn't say anything about vegetables).

It's really easy to make. Just slice the Spam.

Fry them brown on both sides together with the vegetables. The recipe said to fry the rice and the eggs together with the spam after that. But I fried the eggs separately cause every time I mix it with rice it turns out looking like vomit.:/ Stir-fry everything together and add some soy sause to it. Cut the green onion and sprinkle it on the dish. Dig in!

Voordeel vinden, de Groupon van het noorden.

Last tuesday was my bff J's birthday. It was a good excuse to try my coupon I bought at Voordeel Vinden a site which is similar to Groupon but specially for the northern provinces of The Netherlands.

Afgelopen dinsdag was mijn bff J jarig en ik heb haar getrakteerd op een etentje bij de Griek.


Een maand terug attendeerde bff RJ mij erop dat er een soort Groupon in het noorden was begonnen, namelijk 'Voordeel Vinden' (www.voordeelvinden.nl). Ik heb in het verleden al een aantal keren gebruik gemaakt van Groupon. Het is een leuk concept mits je in de randstad woont of het niet erg vindt om te reizen. De aanbiedingen voor Leeuwarden zijn schaars. Ik word meestal naar de pagina van Groningen gestuurd. Jammer dat een retourtje Leeuwarden - Groningen zo duur is. Ik ben trouwens niet zo dol op Groningen aangezien ik bij mijn eerste bezoek aan de stad in een hondendrol trapte. Mijn ma zegt dat chinezen het niet erg vinden om in een drol te staan, het brengt geluk. Ik ben Vietnamees, ik vind het goor.

Voordeel Vinden focust zich op het Noorden (Drenthe, Friesland en Groningen). Registeren is gratis en zo gepiept. Ik ben er van overtuigd dat ik de komende tijd vaker moet gaan sporten. Ik heb vandaag alweer mijn tweede aankoop gedaan. Dit keer weer een restaurant. De website is nog nieuw en dat zie je ook bovenaan, het is nog een bètaversie. Wat bij de eerste keer resulteerde in een dubbele boeking voor de prijs van één. Dat was een foutje van de site maar omdat we zo eerlijk waren, mochten we de codes houden.

My first Voordeel Vinden experience was at Greek restaurant Dionysos. The food was superb but I won't complain about the service. There were some small errors in the service. But I will stop here cause I don't want to sound like a batch in two different languages.-____-

Mijn eerste Voordeel-Vinden-ervaring was bij Griek restaurant Dionysos in Leeuwarden. We hadden twee 3 gangen menu à la carte en een veganistische gerecht voor de jarige. Inclusief drinken zou de rekening normaal € 83,- zijn. Inclusief fooi hebben wij uiteindelijk € 40,- betaald.=) Het eten was heerlijk alleen vond ik de aankleding van het restaurant een beetje tacky en de muziek stond naar mijn mening een beetje te hard aan. De tafel werd tussen de gangen door niet altijd netjes afgeruimd waardoor er ruimtegebrek ontstond voor een klein tafeltje met drie man.

Ik vond het ook een beetje slecht dat de serveerster niet wist dat vis niet in een veganistisch dieet zat. Ik klink als een zeur maar ik vond het eten eerlijk waar overheerlijk.

The Greek chocolate cake (Kormos) was to die for. I couldn't finish it cause I would seriously go to chocolate heaven. The chocolate was really overwhelming.:/ De Griekse chocolade cake (Kormos) was to die for. Ik heb alleen de helft opgekregen anders ging ik echt dood aan de overdaad aan chocolade.:/

It's also possible to order from Dionysos at www.thuisbezorgd.nl (a website which allows you to order from different kinds of restaurants). Thuisbezorgd had its 9th anniversary two years ago. They celebrate by giving away free dinners on the website. Everyone had 9 minutes to choose and order their food. The website was ofcourse overloaded. I don't how he did it but my bff RJ is a computer nerd so he found a way to get on the website. Our first was steak but we ended up with Greek food from .... Dionysos.:D

Je kunt ook bij Dionysos bestellen via de site of via www.thuisbezorgd.nl. 2 jaar terug bestond Thuisbezorgd 9 jaar en dat vierden ze met 9 minuten lang gratis eten uitdelen via hun site. We zaten op de avond klaar met twee computers en steeds maar op refreshen drukken. De site was overbelast en het zag er naar uit dat we niks meer konden krijgen. Maar bff RJ is een nerd dus op de een of andere manier hadden we eten. Het werd geen steak maar een Griekse schotel by Dionysos.:D

Moving house / verhuizen

Last year my parents bought a piece of land 100 meters from their current home. The new house is almost finished. I'm going to claim the attic for sleepovers. Today my cousins came over to check out the new place.:)

Mijn ouders hebben afgelopen jaar een stuk grond gekocht, 100 meter van waar ze nu wonen. Er zijn wat stukken asbest in de grond gevonden dus een moestuin was geen optie meer. Dan maar een huis. Geld moet rollen.;) Mijn Ju-on-trauma moet in stand gehouden worden vandaar dat ik weer de eer heb om op zolder te logeren. Mijn nichtje en neefje kwamen langs om het nieuwe huis te bezichtigen.

Loneliness/eenzaamheid

I can't remember if I ever wrote a haul before but I wanna give some kudos to the IFFR (International Film Festival Rotterdam). A very nice lady at their office has managed to find a short movie I saw some years ago at the festival. Before you watch the movie below I want to point out the importance to keep your family and friends close. I work with drug addicts, alcoholics and mostly lonely people. Most of them don't have contact with their family and the friends they have are people like them, from the street. Yesterday a visitor of the soup kitchen gave me a hugh and a kiss on my cheeck for just asking how he was. So heart breaking.:(
Ik weet niet of ik al eerder een haul heb gedaan maar ik wil graag mijn kostbare whuffies aan het IFFR (Internationaal Film Festival Rotterdam)geven. Een aardige mevrouw op hun kantoor heeft de moeite genomen om de naam van een korte film op te zoeken, die ik daar een aantal jaren terug heb gezien. Voor je de film hieronder gaat zien, wil ik je erop attenderen dat het van belang is om contact te houden met jouw familie en vrienden. Ik werk in de drugspastoraat. De meeste bezoekers zijn gebruikers en vaak ook eenzaam. Ze hebben meestal geen contact met familie en de vrienden die ze nog hebben zijn meestal ook van de straat. Niet echt een goed vooruitzicht.

Don't forget to check on your neighbours once in a while. Or if you haven't alreaydy spoken to them, invite them for a cup of coffee/tea. Maybe you will end up hitchhiking to Berlin, like I did with my neighbour RJ. My bff for 3,5 yrs.
Vergeet ook niet regelmatig je buren gedag te zeggen. Of als je ze nog nooit hebt gesproken, een keer uit te nodigen voor een kopje koffie/thee. Misschien gaan jullie wel een keer samen liften naar Berlijn. Zoals mijn buurman RJ en ik dat hebben gedaan. We zijn al 3,5 jaar beste maatjes.

Museumweekend & La Nit dels Museus 2011

Hola guapas y guapos. Comment ça va?

I'm back from Barcelona and Toulouse. My bff Ying lives in Barcelona. The last time I was there was in 2008. So it was time to visit her again. Last month she was in The Netherlands. She told me her plan to immigrate to Hong Kong.:( Since Hong Kong is not around the corner I didn't think twice when I saw the plane tickets to Barcelona weren't that expensive. The funny thing is that during both visits there was a chance for us to visit museums for free. Last month we had the open museumweekend in The Netherlands. I met Ying in Rotterdam so we went to the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen to see the peanut butter platform.

Ik ben terug van Barcelona en Toulouse. Mijn vriendin Ying woont in Barcelona. Als je mijn blog redelijk volgt, weet je dat ik daar in 2008 voor het laatst ben geweest. Omdat ik niet een al te slechte vriendin wil zijn, heb ik haar na haar bezoek in Nederland, afgelopen maand, ook bezocht. Het grappige aan onze bezoeken was dat we in Nederland en Barcelona gratis naar de museum mochten. Asian people like free stuff.:D Het museumweekend is in Nederland meestal in de maand april. Ying en ik gingen voor het museum Boijmans van Beuningen vanwege de pindakaasvloer. Wie houdt er nou niet van pindakaas? Ok, waarchijnlijk mensen met een pinda-allergie.:/

First we had to put our bags in a locker and Ying hang our jackets on this art piece.

Eerst moesten we onze tassen in een see-through kluisje doen (borg) en de jassen mochten we in de bovenstaande systeem hangen. Je moest eerst een beetje gissen welke touw bij welke hanger hoorde. Ik liet het Ying maar doen. Ik heb geen inzicht.:(

After the museum we had dim sum around 5 p.m. I never ate dim sum so late but it's possible to eat it all day around at chinese restaurant Orient (Westersingel 4, Rotterdam). Since my friend Ying is going to move to Hong Kong she needs to learn Cantonese. She's learning the language phonetically. First she reads the sentence in Mandarin. Then the sentence is translated in the way the Hong Kong chinese say it. And the third sentence is written phonetically.

Na het museum hadden we dim sum bij chinees restaurant Orient (Westersingel 4, Rotterdam). Omdat Ying naar Hong Kong gaat verhuizen, moet ze Kantonees leren. Ze leert de taal fonetisch. Eerst leest ze een zin in het Mandarijns, dan hoe de Hong Kong chinezen het zeggen en de derde zin is fonetisch geschreven.

She tried to speak some sentences and I had to guess what she said. I know she will do fine in Hong Kong. It's a great country and they have a great metro system.:)

Ze probeerde wat zinnen uit te spreken en ik mocht raden wat het betekende. Ik weet zeker dat ze zich wel redt in Hong Kong. Het is een fantastisch land en ze hebben daar een goed metro systeem.:)

May 14 Barcelona had the La Nit dels Museus. Museum night from 7p.m. - 1 a.m. tried to go to La Pedrera (Gaudi museum) first but then we saw this around 7:30 p.m.

14 Mei was er La Nit dels Museus in Barcelona. Museum nacht van 7 uur 's avonds tot 2 uur in 's nachts. We probeerden eerst om naar La Pedrera (Gaudi museum) te gaan maar toen zagen we dit rond half 8 's avonds.

I can tell you, the row was endless. Fat chance we would see the museum that night. Same problem at the museu Egipci de Barcelona (the Egyptian museum of Barcelona).

Ik kan je vertellen dat de rij eindeloos was. Ik had de hoop opgegeven om die museum die nacht te zien. Hetzelfde probleem bij museu Egipci de Barcelona (Egyptische museum Barcelona).

The third museum had no queue. After our short visit we discovered why.-______- I've gorgotten the name of the museum, it was that impressive. Since I didn't really pay attention at art class I don't know what art is. To be honest I don't even care..:D But this museum had for example two kinds of soil on the wall and a huge garbage bag on the floor. And some wooden floor they might have gotten from Ikea.

Het derde museum had geen rij. Na onze korte bezoek kwamen we erachter waarom. Ik ben zelfs de naam van het museum vergeten, zoveel indruk heeft het op mij gemaakt. Ik heb nooit opgelet bij handvaardigheid dus ik weet niet wat kunst is. Mijn Spaans is matig maar kunst is in mijn optiek onbegrijpelijk in alle talen.:/ Maar deze museum had bijvoorbeeld twee verschillende grondsoorten aan de muur hangen en grote vuilniszakken op de vloer. En er hing wat laminaat aan de muur, het leek wel Ikea.

Misschien hadden ze net een verbouwing gehad en hebben ze het afval achtergelaten ....

I fourth museum was the Teatre museu el rei de la magia (magic museum). I couldn't undertand what the guide was saying. But that's because she was speaking catalan, not my cup of tea. The museum is really small but very cute. The museum is actually a school for magicians in training. Cool isn't it? But no students performing that night.

Het vierde museum was de Teatre museu el rei de la magica (magic museum). I kon niet echt verstaan wat de gastvrouw zei maar waarschijnlijk omdat ze Catalaans sprak. Het museum is heel erg klein maar wel schattig. Het museum zit in de school van de goochelaarsopleiding.

The last museum was my favourite one. But was on the hills, so very far away from the city centre. I will tell you later why that was a bad idea to do at that time of the day. It was already 11 p.m. And you can guess again, there was an enormous queue in front of the museum.

Het laatste museum was mijn favoriete. Het was op de heuvels, dus ver weg van de bewoonde wereld. Ik zal je later vertellen waarom dit een slecht idee was om als laatste museum te doen. Het was reeds 11 uur 's avonds. En je het raadt al, er was nog steeds een lange rij voor het museum.

Maar meer over dit museum de volgende keer. Ik moet nog een boel foto's en video's van Spanje en Frankrijk bewerken.
